At least 3 feet or meters in length
Clean, dry and free of dirt, odor or debris
Non-smoking homes only
While we love giving yarn a second chance, we reserve the right to decline any yarn that isn’t clean, dry, or safe to handle — including items with odors, mold, or excessive damage.
We Process It
Once your bag arrives, we weigh, sort, photograph, log and calculate the value of your yarn. You will receive an email update with a detailed description of each ball sent, photos and value. You will also receive an information regarding yarn not suitable for our program. You will now log into your account and choose your next steps.
You Choose What Happens Next
Your bag has been processed! That is what the email will say and now you get to choose what happens next:
a) Take an immediate tax-deductible donation receipt for the amount of your yarn
b) Have us create a mystery skein from your yarn by weight and ship back to you*
c) Take your yarn credit and buy something already in the store
Our products come from donors like you who want to give their yarn a second life. Many contributions also come from the families of beloved crafters who have passed on or who can no longer participate in the craft, but who believe their yarn deserves a good home and a meaningful purpose.
Every skein we receive is carefully inspected for cleanliness, usability, and odor before it becomes part of our collection. While some of our yarn is truly “scrappy,” much of it is high-quality fiber wool, alpaca, silk, recycled denim, and more generously shared by makers who want it to continue its story.
Because of that, not all yarns are priced the same. Some are everyday fibers; some are treasures. If you’ve ever wanted to experiment with luxury fibers or try something new without paying full retail, this may be your chance.

The Scrappy Project gives new life to leftover yarn from projects once made with love. We help crafters upcycle the yarn they already own by processing their bags, sorting and preparing the yarn, and offering meaningful choices for what happens next. Some choose a tax-deductible donation, some choose store credit, and some have us turn their scraps into a mystery skein but every option keeps yarn out of landfills and in circulation.
